Life & Work with Ashley Hall - Orlando Voyager Magazine
Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Hall.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today? My deep love and appreciation for the Equestrian life began as far back as I can remember, growing up on a horse farm in Maryland. For me, Grey Horse Candle Company represents the passion we all have for horses and the Equestrian lifestyle. As a longtime Equestrian enthusiast, I am committed to preserving and building on the valued heritage of Grey Horse Candle Company. Each candle that passes through our doors is hand-poured in small batches from exclusive ingredients and lovingly made with a passion for a lifestyle shared with horses. My goal is to provide an excellent service for all of my customers, who have helped Grey Horse Candle Company become what it is today…
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road? Three years ago, just before Christmas, I had bad riding accident and broke my back and pelvis. While I was recovering at home, barely able to walk on my own and trying to care for my three young boys, all I could think of was the barn, like a typical crazy horse girl! The months of downtime were a blessing in disguise because it gave me the time I needed to find another outlet for my passion for horses while I was unable to ride. In 2018, I created my first business, Equestrienne Decor, an equestrian-inspired online boutique with a ‘Curated Style for Self, Space & Stable.’ From my connections made in the horse community, starting Equestrienne Decor, I was able to purchase Grey Horse Candle Company in 2019.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work? Grey Horse Candle Company is known as the original equestrian candle. We use only 100% soy wax from American grown soybeans and premium grade fragrance oils. All of our candles are phthalate-free, made of lead-free wicks, and are hand-poured. Aside from our bespoke jar candle, we also do tins and wax melts and are currently getting ready to release a high-end signature collection! We sell wholesale to Tack Shops and other Equestrian Boutiques all over the US and Internationally, and we also have an online store and ETSY Shop.
Due to huge demand, in 2020 we were thrilled to be able to provide private labeling as well. Our private label candles are a perfect way to showcase your business or send a thoughtful client gift.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share? It was truly amazing for me to see how much comfort the familiar barn scents of our candles brought to people who were unable to be with their horses due to quarantine. Some of our customers had to go two or three months before they could visit the barn, and any horse person knows just how hard this is. Horses are truly our healers and having that much time away from these animals that bring us so much comfort and peace was a huge challenge for so many of my customers. I’m glad to have helped in some small way.
